  • How is Mvelopes different from other online personal finance programs? +

    If you have used Quicken® or Microsoft® Money, ask yourself, are you any better off financially? Most people find they're not. In spite of all that these programs do, they do not solve the fundamental problem that keeps most people from achieving their financial goals - managing their spending. Quicken and Money use the traditional after-the-fact approach, basically a month-end reconciliation of budget to actual spending. With these programs, money is assigned to spending categories only after it has already been spent. You can then run reports in order to see where your money went so you can try better "next time." It's a reactive approach to budgeting, which simply does not work.

  • Will Mvelopes work on a Mac? +

    Yes. Mvelopes is completely online and uses a platform that runs on the Adobe Flash Player (which can be downloaded for free from Adobe.com), so it runs seamlessly on most browsers on a Mac, a PC, or Linux.
  • What are the system requirements for Mvelopes? +

    Mvelopes runs on a platform which leverages the Adobe Flash Player. This environment provides a rich user experience, an easy-to-understand interface, and many advanced features. Adobe's Flash player is a free browser plugin and can be downloaded here.

  • Is my information secure? +

    Mvelopes uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology to protect your sensitive information during transmission, just like online banks and trading firms, providing the highest level of security available today. A secure username and password are required to log in and users are automatically logged off after a period of inactivity. Data is stored on firewall-protected servers, which are monitored for reliability 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.   • Is my financial institution supported? +

    Mvelopes Personal supports 14469 financial institutions so that you can get real-time account information at anytime. You can link as many accounts as you want, so you can see all your account balances and view all your transactions – expenses or deposits – all from one place.   • What is envelope budgeting? +

    Traditionally, many people managed their money by dividing their cash into several paper envelopes: an envelope for food, entertainment, utilities etc. They would then withdraw cash from these paper envelopes to make purchases. They always knew how much money they had left, and how long it had to last. Mvelopes Personal is a breakthrough in budgeting and spending management that modernizes this proven envelope budgeting concept using innovative, cutting edge technology.
  • How will Mvelopes help me get out of debt? +

    Mvelopes users have found that by closely managing their spending, they are able to eliminate overspending and even save extra money each month. In many cases, there will be money left in several of their discretionary envelopes at the end of the month. By sweeping those extra amounts into current debt payments, they quickly eliminate their debt. If they have more than one debt, when that first debt is paid in full, they roll that whole payment amount plus the extra into their next priority debt on the list and so on until all their debts are paid off. Once they are debt-free, they roll those former debt payments into savings and investments to provide a more financially stable future for themselves and their family.
  • How does Mvelopes handle credit card purchases? +

    Mvelopes includes a credit card management feature to help users avoid costly service fees and interest charges by properly managing credit card spending. With the way most budgeting programs track spending, it is all too easy to spend down your checking account, and run up a balance on your credit card – both accounts laying claim to the same money. However, in Mvelopes, when a user makes a purchase using a credit card, the transaction amount is removed from the spending envelope and placed into to a special envelope to pay off the credit card. When the bill comes, the amount due is sitting in this envelope so the bill can be paid in FULL each month – no more costly finance charges or interest payments!
  • How do I begin using Mvelopes Mobile? +

  • Is there an Mvelopes app available for smartphones? +

    Mvelopes is available for both iPhone and Android smartphones. In order to use an Mvelopes app you will need to be an Mvelopes member. Click here to Start using Mvelopes for Free. Mvelopes apps for smartphones are FREE to all members. No additional registration is required to use the apps. After downloading the app onto your smartphone, enter your Mvelopes username and password just as you would from your computer.

  • Is my phone supported? +

    Most Internet-enabled mobile phones are supported by Mvelopes Mobile. Your phone must support WAP 2.0 or have native browsing capabilities. We also recommend a minimum screen size of 128 x 128 pixels to avoid formatting issues. If you have specific questions about your phone or plan, please visit your service provider's website or call them directly.

  • How do I cancel my Premier Membership? +

    You may cancel your Premier Membership at any time on or before the last day of your Subscription. In order to protect your account, we require that you cancel your account via our secure product support portal in order to obtain a cancellation confirmation number. Email or regular postal mail are not acceptable as a method of cancellation. In order to access the support portal simply click on the Support icon from within the Mvelopes application.
  • Why do you need my email address? +

    A valid email address is required for registration so that we may send important communications to you about any changes to your account. Having your email address is critical. Please notify us by clicking on the Support icon from within the application if you need to change your email address. You are responsible for keeping us informed about changes to your email address as well as for the information we email to you there. We do not sell your personal information, including your email address, except as outlined in our Privacy Policy.
  • Can I use Mvelopes if I live outside the United States? +

    You can use Mvelopes anywhere you have a broadband internet connection. The question is whether we support banks in other countries. We do support a number of financial institutions in Australia and Canada and have many members in both countries. Mvelopes has not officially launched outside of the US market primarily due to our lack of financial institution support in those markets. You can check the Financial Institution Search page to see if your bank is supported.   • Is the coaching over the phone or in person? +

    Coaching is delivered using a combination of an Internet-based screen sharing tool on your computer and the telephone. This method allows you to receive coaching efficiently whether you are at home, at work, or on vacation! All you need is an Internet connection and a telephone.

  • If I don't have a smartphone can I still access Mvelopes on the go? +

    We do offer a mobile interface for Mvelopes that works on nearly all phones that have a data connection, even if that phone is not a smartphone.

  • Can I use Mvelopes without linking to a financial institution? +

    Technically the answer is yes. However this would require you to manually input every financial transaction you make and would require a lot of time to do so. One of the great benefits of using Mvelopes is that we automatically gather all your spending transactions and present them in the “New Transactions” screen. This allows you to quickly and easily “drag-and-drop” or assign those transactions to the envelope where they belong.

  • I don’t see my financial institution. Can it be added? +

    Most financial institutions that allow you to view your accounts and transactions online can be added to Mvelopes. If your financial institution is not currently on the supported list please contact Customer Service using our FREE live chat. You can contact Customer Service by logging into Mvelopes and clicking the Support button at the top of the application.
