Mvelopes has given me a sense of financial control that I didn't have before. Before I found Mvelopes Personal I didn't know where all my money was going. We received all our household income in one lump sum during the month. Then as expenses came up throughout the month I would dip into the bank account to cover them. I was never sure how long the money was going to last. This method of pay-as-you-go was just not working. I was often left without enough money at the end of the month, and felt like I was just getting deeper in debt. I knew I needed to regain control of my finances.

I had tried for years to be able to make sure I was following a budget and trying to make sure I didn't overspend. I had been through Crown Financial even and seemed like I was getting close but could never really nail it down.

Then last October I gave Mvelopes a try. The initial set up took a little work but after that it was totally amazing how well it worked. I went from having overdrafts in my checking account every single month to having money in place many times a month in advance of when the bill was due.

I could also very easily see where I was spending my money, and having it linked to my checking and savings accounts has made a huge difference. Plus, the use of manual transactions and the offline cash account make this a total package for managing money.

I have been able to plan out small amounts of money every month for those bills that are only due occasionally. I can look back and see exactly where money has been spent. My husband is a pastor. Therefore keeping track of expenses is crucial for us. In the past, I have spent most of January gathering up receipts, etc. and entering them into an Excel form I created. However, this year I think preparing for taxes will be a breeze because of Mvelopes. Since I have been entering all the expenses since January 2006 into their appropriate categories, all I will need to do for the tax appointment is go to the correct envelope and copy the totals onto the tax form. Hi Crown Mvelopes! Mine is just a simple story, actually. My husband is usually the one to do our budget updates. Typically, I would not even see the budgeting being done by him because I allowed myself to just get "out of the loop" on this matter at home. The interesting thing is that we both have been single parents before we were married eight years ago. We were both quite able to do our own budgeting without a spouse to bounce things off of during those years.

I knew I would not be able to continue to just 'let go' of this area of our lives as I had allowed myself to do. I did not like the idea of feeling so powerless to help if the time came—and sooner or later it would! Also, I did not like how lazy I had allowed myself to become; it was not really who I am. We had tried a few different budgeting methods, but they were always more user-friendly for my computer-savvy husband than for me—until we tried Mvelopes.

Now I am back on track, helping much more with the budgeting, and enjoying the fact that I can handle this computer program! Since I only work part-time (our choice since we still have a teen in the home), doing the budget frees up my full-time working husband's life more to do the things he likes, like starting up an internet marketing business on the side to 'diversify' our income. P.S. Because of the great influence of Crown Financial Ministries radio programs, we have aimed at being more biblical in our finances. We paid off our house two years ago, we budget for our cars so we are debt free with the two we have (and we were able to give our last car away as a ministry to a needy family), and we also use the Sound Mind Investing program for our investments for retirement.
