The 12 Days of Bad Budgeting

By this time we have all spent far too long shopping: online, in stores, trying to think of something perfect for the tough person on our list. We’ll share gifts that have come across our path that we think you probably shouldn’t have to worry about getting. Plus, we’ll make you feel better about your decision. Think of the savings!

Day 1

On the first day of Christmas, I refrained from buying a KFC Internet Escape Pod and saved myself $5,000. Plus my true love was quite happy with my decision.

Don’t worry about the price tag, but keep in mind you could easily save for it, especially if you’re using the digital envelope method inside of Mvelopes.

Day 2

On the second day of Christmas, an Infrared Supine Sauna caught my eye. Relieving swelling and improving mobility is important to me, but so was the $14,000 I kept in my pocket.

Focusing on important goals, like savings, and not on immediate wants can make your budget look a lot better come January.

Day 3

On the third day of Christmas, I thought about a diamond pacifier for my precious infant. While I would no longer be weighed down by my savings account, I realized 278 diamonds would make it hard for baby Finn to keep his chin up.

Day 4

On the fourth day of Christmas, I almost bought $1,000 shoes that I wouldn’t get until February.

Would I have the coolest sneaker collection in Lithuania? Maybe.

Day 5

On the fifth day of Christmas, my dog buried her diamond pet collar in the backyard. I guess if I’m ever behind on the mortgage I can dig it up.

Day 6

On the sixth day of Christmas, that’s a lot of expensive meat. I’ll stick to ham, turkey, maybe some prime rib so I can keep my meals under four digits.

Also, just in case you’re wondering, planning your grocery shopping with a list, even for large holiday meals, still saves you money.

Day 7

On the seventh day of Christmas, I discovered luxury popcorn tastes a lot like Aunt Ruth’s.

Day 8

On the eighth day of Christmas, I discovered the ultimate base layer…and with integrated mittens.

Day 9

On the ninth day of Christmas a 6/10th scale BMW 328 spoke to me “It’s the best answer to the financial crisis,” the website said.

Day 10

On the 10th day of Christmas, I finally found it. The perfect gift. 24 karat gold smoothie straws and because it’s a 4-pack I saved.

Day 11

On the 11th day of Christmas I hadn’t pampered my dog enough, so I tossed a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired dog condo his way. Ever since he buried that collar he’s been acting a little weird.

Day 12

Merry Christmas!
